Jakub Hrůša is nominated in two categories at the 2024 Gramophone Awards. The prestigious honours will be announced at the gala awards ceremony in October 2024 in London.
Hrůša conducted the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and soloist Isabelle Faust on the Harmonia Mundi release Britten: Violin Concerto / Chamber Works, nominated in the Concerto category.
In his review for the magazine, Geraint Lewis writes, “In the Concerto, Faust digs deep and her tone has a visceral immediacy that goes straight to the heart of the music. She is unafraid and unflinching, and vividly unleashes the passion in these pages with mesmeric power, symbiotically partnered by Jakub Hrůša.”
Gramophone’s Tim Ashley writes, “Hrůša is wonderful in this work, superbly judging its mixture of lyricism and tension,” of Opera category nominee Janáček: Katya Kabanova (Unitel Editions). The Barry Kosky production at Wiener Staatsoper starred Corinne Winters (Kát’a), Evelyn Herlitzius (Kabanicha), David Butt Philip (Boris), Jaroslav Březina (Tichon), Jarmila Balážová (Varvara), Benjamin Hulett (Váňa) and Jens Larsen (Dikój), with the Wiener Philharmoniker and Wiener Staatsopernchor.
The Czech Philharmonic, or which Hrůša is Principal Guest Conductor, is nominated for the reader’s choice Orchestra of the Year award. Click here to vote by 8 September 2024.
